The Bokashi Bin is a practical and convenient alternative for transforming kitchen waste into a nutrient rich soil conditioner.
This unique composting system uses the revolutionary EM (Effective Micro-Organism) called Bokashi to create the ideal conditions for airtight (anaerobic) composting. Great for houses and ideal for apartments, the eco-friendly Bokashi bin and EM Bokashi mix eliminate the odours and unpleasantness associated with putrefaction and decay. Bokashi also produces a liquid juice that is drained off from a tap and makes great fertiliser for plants.
You can compost almost every kitchen food waste in your Bokashi bin including fruit and vegetables, prepared foods, cooked and uncooked meats and fish, cheese, eggs, bread, coffee grinds, tea bags, wilted flowers and tissues.
To operate the bin, you simply sprinkle a handful of the EM Bokashi mix when you add waste. Once the bin is full, you simply bury the waste.
If you have two Bokashi bins, letting the waste from the first Bokashi bin continue to ferment for about 10-14 days will result in faster decomposition. With one bin the system works fine – it just takes the waste a little longer to decompose and turn to compost once it’s been buried.
